Question please. When I watch Italians canning tomatoes or tomato products they don't worry about it being sufficiently acid. Everybody else says you must put in lemon juice or citric acid to guard against botulism. I lived in Italy for 7 years and I know it's a very special place where things work differently there from anywhere else. But does that apply to Italians in New York?

I'm a first generation Sicilian in Toronto Ontario and you guys remind me of my family when I was a kid. Problem for me is we stopped doing the tomatoes when Nonno died. This video makes me want to start up again. You meal reminds me of home when I was a kid. Thank you for taking me back and bringing a tear to my eye.

If you were in the EU this would be illegal. It's illegal here in NZ. No fresh local stuff. Everything has to come through a giant processing plant and a huge corporation. All under the guise of 'health and safety', which is a protectionist move for corporations to stop competition getting a foothold. This video showcases one of the reasons that the US is so cool and vibrant and diverse and authentic.

My parents were born in italy. like a lot of italians in australia, other than speaking italian and cooking i have never really seen any in australia that preserve or constantly do italian things. I can without a doubt say that the italians in american specifically New York, are more freaking italian than the ones in Italy and I love it !!!
